Polyester Fabric Properties

Polyester is a synthetic fiber valued for durability, wrinkle resistance, and holding color and shape, though it breathes less than natural fibers.

Property Detail
Fiber Synthetic (petroleum based)
Feel Smooth, can be slick
Absorbency Low, wicks moisture
Durability High, abrasion resistant
Shrinkage Minimal
Care Easy wash; low heat iron
Common uses Activewear, linings, blends

Working with polyester

Polyester resists wrinkles and shrinking, so it is low maintenance. It melts under a hot iron, so use a low setting and a press cloth.

Keep the iron cool. Polyester scorches and melts with high heat. Press on a low setting with a press cloth to avoid shine and damage.
