Crochet Stitch Calculator

YARN & KNITTING

Work out how many crochet stitches a project needs. Enter your gauge, the width you want, and the number of rows for the foundation count and total stitches.

Stitches per row
Total stitches
Stitches per row = width times (gauge divided by 4). Total = stitches per row times rows.

How it works

Multiply the desired width by your stitches-per-inch (gauge divided by 4) to size each row, then multiply by the row count for the total stitches in the piece. The total is handy for estimating yarn and time.

Add a turning chain. Most crochet stitches need one or more turning chains at the start of a row. Add those to the foundation count based on the stitch you are using.
