Cost Per Yard Formula

Cost per yard turns a bulk price into a per-unit figure so you can compare fabrics or price a project accurately.

Cost per yard = Total ÷ Yards

What the terms mean

Symbol Meaning
Total Total amount paid
Yards Yards purchased

Worked example

Paying $24 for 3 yards is $24 ÷ 3 = $8.00 per yard. A project needing 2.5 yards then costs $20 in fabric.

Compare like for like. When comparing fabrics of different widths, convert to cost per square yard so a wider, pricier bolt is judged fairly.
