Drill feed rate converts spindle RPM and the recommended feed per revolution for a given drill diameter into the linear feed rate (IPM) programmed on the machine.
How it works
Drills feed per revolution rather than per tooth, since both flutes engage the material together as the drill rotates and advances. Feed per revolution generally scales with drill diameter; larger drills can take a larger feed per revolution because they have more edge length in contact with the material.
FAQ
What feed per revolution should I use for drilling? As a rough guide, feed per revolution of roughly 1 to 2 percent of drill diameter is a common starting point in steel (about 0.005 to 0.010 in/rev for a 0.5 in drill), adjusted down for harder materials or deep holes and up for softer materials.
