Convert between metric and imperial area units, including acres and hectares. Enter a value and pick the units.
Usage Tip
Quick anchors: 1 sq m ≈ 10.76 sq ft, 1 acre ≈ 0.405 hectare, 1 hectare ≈ 2.47 acres.
result = value × (from factor ÷ to factor)
Common land units: an acre is 43,560 sq ft; a hectare is 10,000 sq m (about 2.47 acres).
Acres and hectares are the usual land-area units; a hectare is roughly two and a half acres.
Keep units consistent: sq ft for rooms, acres or hectares for land.
A common sizing mistake. Doubling a room’s length and width does not double its area — it quadruples it, since area scales with both dimensions at once. If you are estimating material from a single linear measurement, convert to area first rather than simply doubling one side.
Real estate context. An acre is roughly the size of a football field without the end zones — about 43,560 square feet. A hectare, the metric land unit it is usually compared against, is about 2.5 times larger than an acre, which is why hectare figures often look bigger than the acre figure for the exact same plot.
