Lighting corridors and egress paths
Corridors need even, comfortable light that guides people through without harsh bright-to-dark transitions. Target levels are modest — often 100–200 lux for general corridors, higher where they double as work or waiting areas — but uniformity and the transition to adjacent spaces matter most for comfort and safety. Space fixtures so the light overlaps evenly, avoid glare in the line of sight, and don’t let a corridor be much darker than the rooms opening off it, since the eye struggles with abrupt changes. Egress and exit paths also carry code-required minimum levels and emergency-lighting obligations, so check the applicable building and life-safety codes.
