G94 Feed Per Minute

G94 sets the feed-rate mode to units per minute, so an F value is read as inches (or millimeters) per minute. It is the normal mode for milling. Its counterpart, G95, reads feed as units per revolution and is common on lathes.

Format

G94 (feed in units per minute)
G95 (feed in units per revolution)

How it works

  • Under G94, F10.0 means 10 inches per minute regardless of spindle speed.
  • Under G95, F0.005 means 0.005 inches per revolution, so table speed scales with RPM.
  • Most mills power up in G94; set it explicitly to be safe.

Example

G94 G01 X2.0 F10.0 (feed at 10 ipm)
