G83 Peck Drilling Cycle

G83 drills deep holes in steps (pecks), fully retracting between pecks to clear chips. Use it whenever a hole is deeper than about three diameters, where a straight G81 would pack chips and bind the drill.

Format

G83 X__ Y__ Z__ R__ Q__ F__

How it works

  • Q is the depth of each peck; the drill retracts to clear chips after each one.
  • Z is the final depth, R the retract plane.
  • G80 cancels the cycle.

Example

G83 Z-1.5 R0.1 Q0.2 F4.0 (peck 0.2 in at a time to 1.5 in)
