Knitting Gauge Calculator

YARN & KNITTING

Enter your knitting gauge and the size you want to make. The calculator gives the stitches to cast on and the rows to work.

Stitches to cast on
Rows to work
Cast-on stitches = width times (stitches per 4 in, divided by 4). Rows = length times (rows per 4 in, divided by 4).

How it works

Gauge is your stitches and rows per 4 inches. Multiply your desired width by the stitches-per-inch (gauge divided by 4) to get the cast-on count, and do the same with rows for the length. Always swatch first so the gauge is real.

Swatch in pattern. Measure gauge in the actual stitch pattern you will use. Stockinette and textured stitches give different gauges with the same yarn and needles.
