Common bedroom lighting mistakes
Avoid these โ€” they separate a functional bedroom from a relaxing one
๐Ÿ’ก
Single central fixture only โ€” One overhead creates flat, unflattering light. You need minimum 3 layers: ambient, bedside, and accent.
โ„๏ธ
Cool white or daylight bulbs โ€” Anything above 3000K disrupts melatonin. Use 2700K maximum in the bedroom.
๐ŸŽฏ
Recessed lights over the pillow โ€” You will stare into the bulb when lying down. First row of downlights must be 2.5ft+ from the head wall.
๐Ÿ”†
No dimmer on ambient circuit โ€” Bedroom overhead without a dimmer is an interrogation room. Every ambient circuit needs dimming.
โšก
Both bedside lights on one circuit โ€” Partners read at different times. Wire each bedside independently.
๐ŸŒ‘
No night navigation light โ€” Getting up and switching on full lights destroys sleep. A 5-10 lux amber night light on a motion sensor solves this.
