Convert between metric and US volume units, including cooking measures. Enter a value and pick the units.
Usage Tip
Kitchen anchors: 3 tsp = 1 tbsp, 4 tbsp = 1/4 cup, 1 cup = 8 fl oz, 4 cups = 1 quart, 4 quarts = 1 gallon.
result = value × (from factor ÷ to factor)
US and UK gallons differ — these use US liquid measure.
Dry and liquid measures also differ for some units; cooking conversions here are liquid.
1 US gallon ≈ 3.785 liters; 1 liter ≈ 33.8 US fl oz.
Cups are not universal either. A US cup is about 236 ml, but a metric cup (used in Australia, New Zealand, and many recipes outside the US) is a rounder 250 ml, and a Japanese cup is 200 ml — close enough for casual cooking, but enough to throw off a precise baking recipe if you assume they are identical.
Scaling a recipe is not purely linear. Doubling a recipe safely doubles most liquid and bulk ingredients, but strong flavors like salt, spices, and leavening agents (baking soda, baking powder) often need less than double to avoid an overpowering or overly dense result — taste and adjust rather than assuming every ingredient scales the same way.
