2024 is a copper-bearing aerospace aluminum, strong and fatigue resistant. It machines much like 6061 and 7075 — fast surface speeds, sharp tools, and attention to chip clearing and built-up edge.

Tooling and tips
- 2–3 flute, uncoated or ZrN carbide, high helix for clean chip evacuation.
- Flood or mist coolant to flush chips and stop built-up edge.
- Often sold alclad for corrosion resistance; the soft cladding machines easily.
