Facing cycle time estimates how long a facing pass takes based on the part radius, feed rate, and number of passes.
How it works
Facing time is driven by radius, not diameter, since the tool travels from the outer edge to the center or vice versa. If the program starts with an air-gap approach before touching the part, add that distance to the radius input so the estimate matches actual cycle time. On parts with a hole or boss at center, facing may stop short of true center, so subtract that radius from the travel distance to avoid inflating the time estimate.
FAQ
Does facing use the same feed rate as turning? Not necessarily. Facing often runs at a similar or slightly higher feed than OD turning since it’s usually a shorter, less deflection-prone cut, but very fine finish facing passes may use a reduced feed for surface finish.
