Calculators for yarn crafts and sewing
These calculators take the guesswork out of knitting, crochet, sewing, and quilting. They work out how much yarn or fabric a project needs, convert needle, hook, and fabric sizes between systems, and turn a gauge swatch into stitch and row counts, so you can start a project with confidence.
For sewing, there are calculators for skirts, sleeves, hems, pleats, ruffles, curtains, and pillows, along with yardage and shrinkage. For quilting, you will find tools for backing, batting, binding, borders, blocks, and the cutting sizes for common units such as half square triangles and flying geese. The knitting and crochet tools cover yardage, gauge, increases, and decreases.
Each calculator includes notes that explain how the result is worked out and what to watch for, so you can check the numbers against your own project. Measure carefully, use the same units throughout, and make a swatch before you commit to expensive yarn or fabric.
The results are estimates. Yarn, fabric, and tension vary, so buy a little extra, keep the labels and dye lot numbers, and wash a test piece before you cut or finish your project.
Not sure where to begin? Start with a yardage calculator for your project type, then use the gauge and size tools to check that the finished piece will fit.
