Kilograms and pounds
The everyday conversion is that one kilogram is about 2.205 pounds, and one pound is about 0.454 kilograms. For quick mental math, double the kilograms and add a little to estimate pounds, or halve the pounds to estimate kilograms. A pound divides into 16 ounces, and a stone, used in the UK for body weight, is 14 pounds.
Tonnes versus tons
Three different tons exist. The metric tonne is 1,000 kilograms, about 2,205 pounds. The US short ton is 2,000 pounds, about 907 kilograms. The UK long ton is 2,240 pounds. They are close but not equal, so the type of ton matters in shipping, freight, and engineering.
