Square Calculator

Find the area, perimeter, and diagonal of a square. Enter the side length.

Area
sq units
Side squared.

Usage Tip

To double a square’s area, multiply the side by the square root of 2, not by 2.

THE MATH
area = side², perimeter = 4 × side
diagonal = side × √2
A square is a rectangle with four equal sides and four right angles.
Its diagonal is always the side length times the square root of 2 (about 1.414).
Area is the side squared; perimeter is four times the side.
The diagonal is about 1.414 times the side.
All four sides and angles are equal.
