The mean is the sum of the values divided by how many there are, the median is the middle value once the list is sorted, and the range is the largest value minus the smallest. Each describes the data differently, and comparing them shows how it is shaped.
When the mean and the median are close, the values are fairly balanced. When the mean is much higher than the median, a few large values are pulling it up, as with incomes or home prices. In those cases the median usually describes a typical value better. Check for typing mistakes, since one wrong entry can change the mean and range noticeably.
