Garage Floor Coating Calculator

Estimate how much epoxy or floor coating your garage needs. Enter the floor size, number of coats, and the coverage on the product label.

Usage Tip

Measure your actual floor rather than trusting the car-bay label on the kit — bays vary. Buy one extra quart of base for the thirsty first coat on bare concrete.

THE MATH
Floor area = Length × Width
Coating area = area × number of coats
Gallons = round up (coating area with waste ÷ coverage per gallon)
Coverage per gallon is on the product label — epoxy commonly covers about 250 to 350 sq ft per gallon on the first coat of bare concrete, more on later coats.
Most floors get two coats (or a primer plus topcoat); enter the number you plan.
Bare, porous concrete drinks the first coat, so real coverage is often lower than the smooth-surface number on the can — round up.
Garage floor kits are often sold by bay size (a 1-car bay is roughly 250 sq ft, a 2-car about 400 to 500 sq ft); match the kit to your measured area.
Account for prep (etching or grinding) and full cure time; coatings fail on dirty, damp, or unprepared concrete.
