When between sizes, go up — the price difference is usually small next to the hassle of a unit you cannot walk into. Disassemble bed frames and tables to reclaim space.

THE MATH
Estimated space scales with bedrooms and how much you store

Common units: 5×5, 5×10, 10×10, 10×15, 10×20, 10×30 ft
Self-storage units are sized in feet (a 10×10 is 100 sq ft). Rough guide: a 5×5 holds a large closet, a 10×10 about a one-bedroom apartment, a 10×20 a small house.
Units are usually 8 ft or taller, so you store by volume — stacking matters as much as floor area.
These are planning estimates; how well you pack and stack changes the unit you need as much as how much you own.
Leave an aisle to reach items at the back, and do not stack heavy boxes on fragile ones.
Climate-controlled units cost more but protect wood, electronics, and documents from heat and humidity — worth it for long-term storage.
