ID boring cycle time estimates how long an internal boring pass takes from bore length, clearance, feed rate, and number of passes.
How it works
Boring bars generally run slower feeds than OD turning tools because the bar overhangs into the bore with less rigid support, making it more prone to deflection and chatter, especially as bore depth-to-diameter ratio increases. Clearance/approach distance accounts for the tool entering and exiting the bore beyond the finished length.
FAQ
Why does my boring bar chatter more than my OD turning tool? Boring bars are unsupported on one end and often thinner in cross-section relative to their length than a turning tool, so they deflect and vibrate more easily. Using the largest-diameter, shortest-overhang bar that fits the bore, and reducing feed and speed, both help.
