Takt Time Calculator

MANUFACTURING & PRODUCTION

Find the pace production needs to run at to match customer demand, the target time allowed per unit.

Takt Time (min/unit)

Takt time = available production time / customer demand. It is a pace target, not a measured cycle time, if your actual cycle time runs slower than takt you will not keep up with demand.

How it works

Takt time comes from demand, not from the machine or operator. Once you know how much time is available in a shift and how many units the customer needs in that time, dividing one by the other tells you the maximum time you can spend on each unit and still keep pace.

FAQ

Is takt time the same as cycle time? No, cycle time is how long a process actually takes. Takt time is the target pace set by demand. The goal is usually to get actual cycle time at or below takt time.
