Calculate material removal rate from feed rate, axial depth of cut, and radial width of cut, a quick check on how much volume is actually being removed per minute.
Formula: MRR = Feed Rate times Depth of Cut times Width of Cut.
How it works
MRR multiplies the three numbers that define cutting volume per minute: how fast the tool travels, how deep it cuts, and how wide. It is a useful sanity check when pushing for higher productivity, and a way to compare strategies (deep/slow vs. shallow/fast) on equal footing.
FAQ
Does higher MRR always mean faster machining? Generally yes for roughing, but tool deflection, heat, and chip evacuation set the practical ceiling.
