Driver Efficiency Table

An LED driver loses some power as heat. Its efficiency affects total system energy use and heat load. This chart compares driver types.

Driver type Typical efficiency
Linear (resistive) 50 to 70%
Magnetic 80 to 85%
Electronic constant-voltage 85 to 90%
Electronic constant-current 88 to 92%
High-end programmable 90 to 94%
Load it properly. Driver efficiency falls off below about 20% of rated load. Size the driver so the fixtures use most of its capacity.
