Countertop Calculator

Estimate countertop material for a kitchen or bath. Enter the counter run, depth, and any island to get the square footage to order, with a waste allowance and optional cost.

Usage Tip

Measure each counter segment and add them up rather than guessing the total length. Get the fabricator template before final ordering — field conditions move the numbers.

THE MATH
Area = Run (ft) × Depth (ft) + Island area
Depth (ft) = Depth (in.) ÷ 12
Order = Area × (1 + waste%), rounded up
Standard counter depth is about 25.5″ (a 24″ base cabinet plus roughly 1.5″ of front overhang). Stone and quartz are priced and sold by the square foot of slab.
Sink and cooktop cutouts are cut from the slab you buy, so they do not reduce the area to order.
This estimates usable countertop area; slab material comes in fixed sizes, so a fabricator may need more to lay out seams and grain — the waste allowance covers part of that.
Add backsplash square footage separately if your material wraps up the wall.
Long runs need seams; plan seam locations away from the sink and cooktop, and confirm slab sizes with your supplier.
