Usage Tip

Get three written quotes that itemize unit, labor, disposal, and trim. Full-frame replacement costs more but is the right call when frames are rotted or you are changing the opening size.

THE MATH
Per window = Cost per window × install factor
Total = Number of windows × Per window
Planning range = Total × 0.8 to Total × 1.2
Install factor is 1.0 for insert/retrofit (new unit into the existing frame) and 1.25 for full-frame replacement (frame and all). The range reflects how much brand, glass package, size, and local labor move the real price.
Costs are 2026 US installed averages by material and are fully editable — drop in a real quote to refine. The national average is roughly $1,000 per window across materials.
Not included by default: removal and disposal (often $300 to $500 total), permits, interior trim or drywall repair, and oversize or custom-shape windows (which can add 30% to 80% per unit).
Old frame condition is the biggest wildcard — rotted sills or non-standard sizes can push a job well above these figures.
