Across all sizes.

Usage Tip

Pick up a few extra boxes and plenty of packing paper and tape. Stores and movers often take back unused flat boxes, so over-buying a little costs little.

THE MATH
Boxes scale with bedrooms and how much you own
Small ≈ books and heavy items, large ≈ light bulky items
Wardrobe and dish-pack boxes are counted separately
Box needs depend mostly on how many rooms you have and how much you own. Heavy packers (lots of books, kitchenware, collections) need noticeably more.
Small boxes carry heavy items and large boxes carry light bulky ones — never pack heavy things in big boxes.
These are planning estimates; a minimalist needs far fewer boxes than a packrat with the same floor plan.
Get more small boxes than you think for books, dishes, and tools — they are the most-used size and the safest to lift.
Reserve wardrobe boxes for hanging clothes and dish packs (double-walled, with dividers) for glassware and plates.
