Gravel Calculator

Calculate gravel volume and weight for a driveway, path, or base layer.

Gravel Volume
cubic yards
Plus weight in tons.

Usage Tip

Order about 10 percent extra for compaction and edges, and lay landscape fabric underneath to slow weeds and keep stone from sinking.

THE MATH
cubic yards = (length × width × depth ÷ 12) ÷ 27
tons = cubic yards × density
Gravel volume is the area times the depth in cubic yards; the weight depends on the stone type, since denser stone weighs more per cubic yard.
Enter the area dimensions, the depth, and the gravel type.
The result gives both cubic yards and an approximate weight in tons for ordering.
