Blueprint Scale Calculator

Convert between blueprint (scale drawing) measurements and real-world sizes. Pick a scale and enter a length to scale it up or down.

Usage Tip

If a plan has a printed scale bar, measure it to confirm the print was not resized. A drawing labeled 1/4″ = 1 ft that prints at the wrong size throws off every measurement.

THE MATH
Drawing to real: real = drawing × scale ratio
Real to drawing: drawing = real ÷ scale ratio
1/4″ = 1 ft is the same as 1:48
A scale ratio of 1:48 means 1 unit on paper equals 48 units in real life. Architectural scales convert to ratios: 1/4″ = 1 ft is 1:48, 1/8″ = 1 ft is 1:96.
Keep the drawing and real measurements in the same unit, then convert to feet or meters at the end.
Pick a preset scale or type any ratio in the scale box for an odd or metric scale.
Measure to the same unit you set, then read the result in that unit; the chip shows a handy feet or meter conversion.
Printed plans may be reduced or enlarged from their stated scale — check a known dimension or the scale bar before trusting measurements off the page.
