Usage Tip

Vinyl is sold by the box, so divide the plank count by the planks-per-box on the label and round up. Keep a spare box for repairs.

THE MATH
plank area = (width ÷ 12) × (length ÷ 12)
planks = round up( area × (1 + waste ÷ 100) ÷ plank area )
Luxury vinyl planks click together like laminate. The count depends on the floor area and the size of each plank, plus a waste allowance for end cuts.
Enter the floor area, the plank width and length in inches, and a waste percentage (10 percent is typical).
The result rounds up to whole planks.
