Shower Pan Tile Calculator

Estimate tile for a shower pan and walls. Enter the shower size, tile height, and which walls you are tiling to get the square footage to buy.

Pan plus walls, with waste.

Usage Tip

Buy pan and wall tile from the same lots and keep spares. Mosaic sheets speed up the sloped pan; larger tile covers walls faster with fewer grout lines.

THE MATH
Pan area = Width × Depth ÷ 144
Wall area = (Back + sides) × Height ÷ 144
Order = each area × (1 + waste%), rounded up
The pan is the shower floor; walls are the back and side walls up to the tile height (commonly 72 to 84″). The front is usually the door or opening and is not tiled.
Tile is sold by the square foot.
The shower pan usually uses small mosaic tile so it can follow the slope to the drain — expect more cuts and a higher waste factor (15 to 20%) than the walls.
Walls and pan are typically different tile bought separately; this gives a square-foot figure for each.
Add a niche, curb, or bench separately, and waterproof behind the tile per the membrane manufacturer.
